GENERAL SUMMARY :

Supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct

patient care and performing duties as assigned by supervising staff. These duties may vary by shift or may be

section specific.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS :

  • Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent,

adult and geriatric patients.

  • Prepares for and carries out transport of

patient, equipment, supplies and medical record to and from department.

Transfers patient to/from cart/bed/wheelchair using correct and safe technique.

  • Under supervision and guidance of Emergency

staff: participates in patient procedures.

Assumes responsibility for patient’s care, safety and environment

throughout transportation or procedures.

Observes and reports pertinent patient information according to

department policy.

  • Demonstrates appropriate and effective written,

verbal and non-verbal communication with patients and their families,

colleagues, medical staff, and the public; participates in staff meetings and

inservice education.

  • Changes linens, cleans and stores equipment.

  • Works with department and hospital computer

information systems.

  • Assumes responsibility for patient care needs

such as dressing/undressing, ambulation, and elimination needs (i.e., bedpans,

urinal). Empties urinary catheter bags.

  • Answers patient requests and responds

appropriately.

  • Maintains patient care and section supplies.

  • Complies with OHSA/JCAHO and other regulatory

agency recommendations and guidelines.

  • Under the direction of a Emergency staff,

participates in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, positioning

and moving patients, locating, moving, setting up and cleaning equipment and

supplies.

  • Maintains the physical environment of the

department in a clean, well stocked, and orderly manner.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all patients

and personnel information.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Medical terminology preferred.

  • Obtain CPR qualification within 3 months of hire.
