Health Information Consultant

Responsible for identifying opportunities to improve health care affordability through analysis of data. Ability to translate data to provide answers and stories from the data for client consultation for improving health care affordability to professional clients.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Collaborates with the data warehouse analysts in the establishment and adherence to business rules.

  2. Provides business knowledge regarding the appropriate use of data elements and cooperates with reporting personnel from other areas to establish and maintain these common business rules.

  3. Tracks and prioritizes projects through coordination and negotiation with client to improve the efficiency of information/project plan generation.

  4. Evaluates and triages potential projects and studies based on the value, cost benefit analysis and the urgency of the request.

  5. Performs strategic data analysis (data mining) and research as appropriate to support business needs (e.g., disease management, provider profiling, etc.).

  6. Develops good understanding of relevant business processes, goals and strategy in order to provide analysis and interpretation.

  7. Collaborates with business user to define media, frequency and audience for distribution of information.

  8. Develops action plans to address areas for improvement identified through data analysis and business expertise and communicates action plans to client.

  9. May assist in the planning of initiatives to address areas for improvement.

Health Info Consultant Sr

Responsible for identifying opportunities to improve health care affordability through analysis of data and transforming business intelligence into action plans. Provides strategic recommendations for improving health care affordability to executives and professional clients.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Provides business expertise regarding the appropriate use of data elements and cooperates with reporting personnel from other areas to establish and maintain these common business rules.

  2. Translates data trends into strategic recommendations for program development and action plans.

  3. Tracks and prioritizes projects through coordination and negotiation with internal and external clients to improve the efficiency of information/project plan generation.

  4. Evaluates and triages potential projects and studies based on the value, cost benefit analysis and the urgency of the request.

  5. Performs strategic data analysis (data mining) and research as appropriate to support business needs (e.g., disease management, provider profiling, etc.).

  6. Develops detailed understanding of relevant business processes, goals and strategy in order to provide analysis and interpretation.

  7. Develops and communicates action plans to address areas for improvement identified through data analysis and business expertise.

  8. Assists in planning initiatives to address areas for improvement.

  9. Mentors (formally and informally) less experienced associates and identifies training needs and initiates education to address skill and knowledge gaps.

Health Info Consultant

  • Requires a BS/BA degree.

  • At least 3 years related experience in analysis and reporting.

  • Knowledge and understanding of data warehouse data structures and data flows and standard Business Information tools and programming/query languages.

Health Info Consultant Sr

  • Requires a BS/BA degree.

  • At least five years related experience in analysis and reporting.

  • Any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of data warehouse data structures and data flows is required.

  • Prior experience in a client-facing role is required, with preference given to those supporting major national clients.

  • Understanding of drivers of health care trends and ability to quantify and articulate these trends is required.

  • Knowledge of standard Business Information tools and programming/query languages preferred.

  • Experience in managed care and data analysis is strongly preferred.

  • Practical business experience is preferred.

  • This job focuses more on higher level customers and developing action plans as compared to the Health Information Consultant job.

  • SQL, Access and Excel proficiency is required.

  • SAS and Teradata skills are preferred.

Qualifications for all levels:

  • Consulting experience in healthcare required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills required.

  • Excellent analytical skills required.
