Director Patient Access Strategy

Monday- Friday, 8a-5p

Full-Time Benefits/ 40 Hours per week

This position is responsible for leading a team of resources to support business development, strategy, and organizational planning activities for UnityPoint Clinic. The Director of Patient Access Strategy will provide leadership to staff across multiple regions to ensure effective operations, optimal performance, and quality improvement of the focused initiatives. A large area of focus will be supporting the Roadmap/Strategic Plan, specifically those areas related to referral management and patient access.

Patient Access and Strategic Operations Support

  • Plan and prioritize work to implement, support, and operationalize key digital communication strategies (WELL, MyUP, etc.)

  • Lead the MyUnityPoint (MyUP) operationalization and strategy

  • Assists Executive Director with maintenance of virtual care operationalization and support

  • Assists Executive Director with planning and support of additional digital/virtual opportunities

  • Leads utilizing technology and workflows to create a differentiated experience

  • Leads with development, maintenance, and operationalization of optimized schedules

  • Leads visit type maintenance and standards

  • Ensure support of system level strategies directly impacting operations

  • Management of Practice Development

  • Takes a data-driven approach to identification of access opportunities

System Operations

  • Responsible for centralization of the Regional Referral Centers

  • Management and oversight of Centralized Referral Center

  • Manages an evolving referral management program serving the needs of patients, the organization and its regional affiliates in a changing healthcare environment.

  • Collaborates with necessary partners to ensure use of provider source of truth and integration into in EHR.

  • Leads the Referral/Scheduled Orders User Group to provide ongoing support and optimization work of the EHR, including the design, build and implementation of new or improved functionalities and workflows.

  • Responsible for creating a culture of innovation and continuous process improvement among staff and cross-departmental leads.

  • Collaborates and maintains strong working relationship with the ACO, IT, Ambulatory Informatics and regional operations leaders to ensure the Referral Center is well-aligned.

  • Execution of and management to regional SLAs.

  • Management of operational planning and budgets for centralized operational functions.

Talent Management

  • Directly Manages the Business Development Analysts and the Managers of the Referral Center, and indirectly manages the Referral Center Operational Leads and Referral Specialists as assigned.

  • Responsible for recruitment of top talent and meet program needs with a customer focused mentality.

  • Ensures all team members are oriented and properly trained.

  • Implements effective performance management and staff development processes.

  • Establishes effective mechanisms of communication with staff and key stakeholders to foster an environment of openness, trust and teamwork.

  • Assists in the annual budget process.

  • Analyzes and requests staff expenditures within budget parameters

  • Provide leadership and direction that ensures top of licensure duties for all team members.

  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Advanced Degree, e.g. MBA, MS

Experience:

5 years’ experience in health related field

Significant experience in strategic planning

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Must have strong team and project management skills with demonstrated responsibilities in project management.

· Must have demonstrated experience as an excellent communicator and must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills.

· Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem solving expertise.

· Needs to have the ability to work with technical/IT resources to help drive projects forward.

· Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.

Other:

· Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

· Ability to travel to assigned regions, other UPH or community facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.

· Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary to meet business needs of the department.
