UnityPoint Health Radiology Technologist in Sioux City, Iowa
Under the direction of the Radiologist, the Radiologic Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of radiation for the diagnosis of disease in patients of all ages. The Technologist shall provide the technical knowledge, expertise and professional judgment required to support the mission and goal of St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.
Part-Time | Rotating day/evening shift some weekends and holidays.
Produces high quality radiographic procedures with precision, accuracy, and in a timely manner for the Radiologist to interpret.
Practices radiation protection for patient & oneself during all procedures.
Maintains x-ray equipment daily.
Facilitates learning environment for Radiology staff including Rad Tech students and new hires through in-service instruction and clinical supervision.
Assists Radiologists, other physicians and peers with procedures.
Explains radiology procedure to patients and families (patient communication) and performs patient care activities.
Utilizes information systems and prepares all documentation necessary to ensure accurate and consistent information work flows.
Maintains knowledge of current department protocols and equipment.
Maintains cleanliness and adequate stocking in both exam and work areas.
Disposes of all body fluids, hazardous materials, chemicals in an appropriate manner according to OSHA standards and guidelines.
Adheres to all hospital and departmental safety regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols.
Answers the phone, takes accurate messages, schedules patient appointments and performs some secretarial/filing duties.
Correlates the Radiology exam with other tests & preparations to best pronounce the disease process.
Ability to complete the work with little supervision and efficiently under stressful patient exam schedules.
Demonstrates professional conduct towards patients and visitors and maintains privacy of the patients, their test results and records.
Maintains communication with Radiology Administration, staff and physicians in a professional manner. Seeks the advice of the Radiology Manger with problems before implementing a solution.
Practices radiation protection for patient & oneself during all procedures
Accurately maintains the necessary documentation and records to comply with regulatory guidelines established by the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the DNV (Det Norske Veritas) accreditation body
Promotes a positive public relations image through productive and professional interactions with nurses, physicians, visitors, patients, peers, supervisors, and other hospital personnel.
Actively participates in Departmental PI projects to improve Imaging Services

- Completion of radiology program accredited through the American Registry or Radiologic Technology.
Minimum Work Experience
Current American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
Current Iowa Permit to Practice.
Current CPR Certification (effective January, 2002)
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
· Machines: Siemens Sireskop SX, Fuji Chest Unit, Siemens Table w/tomo, GE AMX Portable, OEC 9800 C-Arm, OEC 9900 C-Arm, McKesson PACS, Teleradiology, RIS (Radiology Applications), EMR, Various Office Equipment (including but not limited to fax, copier, scanner, digitizer, CD Burner), Telephone skills.
· Administrative: The radiographer shall demonstrate a working knowledge of technical factors and patient body habitus to perform a wide variety of technical procedures. He/she must maintain knowledge of current department protocols, assist the radiologist in procedures, practice and adhere to radiation protection requirements, utilize information systems to process paperwork, assist in training new and student radiographers, practice sterile and isolation techniques resulting in the prevention of cross-contamination and infection, and perform other assigned duties as requested. He/she must maintain all levels of compliance according to hospital, state, federal and accreditation bodies. He/she must consistently follow the direction of the lead technologist, demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and cooperation and maintain an attitude of professionalism. He/she must strictly adhere to all hospital and departmental safety regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols.
