Mechanical Design Engineer ISioux City, IA
Uses engineering skills and manufacturing experience to design sheet metal enclosures and pole structures to house equipment for the wireless industry.
Communicates real time updates to Engineering Manager.
Produces production ready designs considering production feasibility, cost, manufacturability and design accuracy.
Recommends/implements design changes for reduction in production cycle times, optimal cost efficiency, universal component use and ease of assembly.
Considers in design intent ways to improve productivity and quality.
Considers cost of materials, manufacturability, and labor to determine project feasibility.
Designs aesthetically pleasing, thermally efficient and structurally sound products.
Evaluates customer design specifications and assures compliance throughout development cycle.
Initiates daily communication on project status to Engineering Manager. Demonstrates technical product knowledge, design configurations, concepts and limitations and quality processes.
Acquires knowledge and assures adherence to all Sabre procedures and policy for engineering, production, tracking and follow-up.
Travels with overnight stays to customer and vendor locations as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
1+ years of mechanical design experience preferred.
1+ years of sheet metal design and manufacturing experience preferred.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Knowledge and proficient use of Solidworks 3D design software. Preferably 3 years minimum experience.
Proficient use of a 3D Mouse and mouse gestures for command and execution of models and drawings in Solidworks is preferred.
Proficiency creating drawings.
Familiarity with other CAD systems is desired.
Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of welding and annotating welds in drawings desirable.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in sheet metal cabinet construction. Knowledge of tubular steel and pole construction an asset.
Experience with PDM and document control preferred.
Knowledge and experience evaluating design tradeoffs to achieve the most efficient cost effective designs.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of technical drawings and models.
Telecom experience is a plus, especially the wireless industry.

Ability to use hand tools for light assembly/modification of test and prototype articles for third party or in-house lab work.
Position will include an office environment, customer and vendor locations. Position will require working on a computer, phone and with general office equipment. Regularly required to use hands to work on the computer, finger, handle or grasp, reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to pass standard pre-employment vision test.
- B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
- Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, Overtime and Weekends as needed
