UnityPoint Health Director Medical & Surgical Services in Sioux City, Iowa

The Director of Nursing directs and is accountable for the quality of patient care administered throughout Medical and Surgical nursing areas. The position has particular responsibility for integration of clinical performance improvement and operational effectiveness. The Director of Nursing develops and implements the organizations plan for providing nursing care to patients. This involves developing patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how nursing/patient care is assessed, interventions planned and provided and outcomes evaluated. The primary responsibility is for the quality of nursing care, thus assuring efficient and effective coordination and delivery of patient care services. This position works in close collaboration with the Vice President of Nursing in all matters affecting the day-to-day nursing department operations . It is expected that this position participates with leaders of the executive, management and medical staff in planning, promoting, and conducting hospital wide quality assessment and performance improvement activities.

  • Minimum Education

  • BSN in nursing.

  • MS preferred (in Nursing Leadership and/or Administrative services preferred).

Minimum Work Experience

  • 5 years of professional nursing experience required. 3-5 years of previous management experience required with proven understanding of financial, quality, collaboration, and service.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Current state registration as an RN (or eligibility to do so).

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Director must have knowledge and experience in general nursing care for Medical/Surgical patients, transformational leadership skills, developing and managing quality measures, project management experience, and strong team building characteristics. Strong verbal communication skills, writing skills, and knowledgeable about state and federal regulatory bodies. Motivational self-starter, transparency minded, and collaborative. Knowledge of human resource management; program development; and fiscal management skill.
