Develops, coordinates, and administers the didactic and clinical education of medical laboratory science and phlebotomy students.
Compliance - 20% annually
- Develops program policies and objectives to meet the standards of the programs and complies with NAACLS standards and other regulatory agencies.
Development/Planning/Assessment - 35% annually
Organizes and coordinates the didactic and clinical portions of both programs, and through periodic review evaluates the learning effectiveness in conjunction with each program’s objectives.
Performs curriculum review and planning activities, and develops course outlines to meet the standards and objectives of both programs.
Monitors instructors and lecturers to assure program objectives are met for both programs.
Prepares the department’s annual budget which includes both programs’ budget.
Student Instruction/Advising/Assessment - 35% annually
Participates in the teaching of medical laboratory science courses for both programs.
Provides counseling, and acts as an advisor to students, reviews student progress, and maintains data on students in both programs.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria - 10% annually

Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist who holds nationally recognized ASCP-BOC generalist certification and who possesses a master’s degree in a related discipline.
- Three years’ experience in medical laboratory science education that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Medical Laboratory Scientist who holds ASCP-BOC generalist certification.
Must earn a minimum of 36 credits of professional development per three year period.
Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current accreditation and certification procedures.
