The Quality Engineer - New Product Development (NPD) interfaces among multiple functions and teams to ensure specific product manufacturability quality risks are identified and mitigated. This position creates and manages advanced Manufacturing Quality Plans to ensure process capability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Demonstrate the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors.
Generate in Phase 2 of New Product Development Process and maintain robust Manufacturing Quality Plans for new manufactured products.
Participate in Design for Manufacturability Analysis (DFMA) and Design Reviews for new product to ensure manufacturing quality risks are identified, and process capability & manufacturing control plans are established.
In partnership with manufacturing engineering, Identify critical process steps which could culminate in possible sources of manufacturing defects and devise methods to reduce process variation in order to reduce/eliminate the cause of defects.
Support process validation, supplier validation, and test method development activities.
Ensure new product designs comply to Corporate Manufacturability guidelines.
Manage and maintain process capability studies on critical product and process characteristics as part of project requirements.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Industrial Technology, or Industrial Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of experience with product/quality/manufacturing process development.
Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, and/or NPD experience preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
Demonstration of data collection, statistical analysis capability and ability to apply statistical tools and scientific methods to drive test validations and data analysis.
Knowledge of Lean Sigma tools is highly preferred.
Knowledge of production equipment within the manufacturing and engineering processes.
Ability to apply root cause failure analysis and reliability evaluation.
Competent with use of Microsoft Office Suite, and Minitab Statistical Analysis software (or equivalent).
Ability to manage priorities and workflow and handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Ability to analyze and resolve routine issues using independent judgment.
Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
Ability to provide accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.
Demonstration of strong communication, written communication, and presentation skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
ASQ certification as Quality Engineer and/or Reliability Engineer
Lean Sigma Green/ Black Belt Certification
Up to 10% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
