1 - First Shift

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager manages the daily operations of the EHS department. This position anticipates, identifies, and advises management on EHS issues and legislation. This role directs the use of the EHS management system which includes developing and implementing EHS strategies at the location to assist the site in meeting EHS business related objectives and targets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Lead through the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors. Manage assigned team members in performance of their duties. Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the organization’s business strategies and objectives and ensure department is properly serving its internal and external customers and meeting defined expectations.

  2. Provide leadership to drive an effective EHS management system for the organization and integrate continuous improvement in order to enhance business operations.

  3. Promote the active management of EHS through the identification of hazards, evaluation of solutions and residual risk, and implementation of appropriate solutions.

  4. Identify, coordinate, and provide EHS training to meet legislation requirements and EHS standards.

  5. Lead EHS audits and inspections of premises and operations using local resources and assist line management to create improvement action plans.

  6. Assist in the design of products and processes by providing recommendations based on EHS expertise.

  7. Assist in the development of EHS policy deployment objectives and projects and provide input into the annual budget.

    Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, science, safety, environmental, or engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience in the application of environmental, occupational health, or safety principles; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Other Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of related compliance regulations including, but not limited to, RCRA, environmental training, OSHA, DOT and IATA.

  • Ability to understand and read governmental regulations and apply them to different situations, solve problems and implement solutions.

  • Ability to produce and maintain accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner and ensure that they meet regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to manage staff in the performance of duties such that performance meets or exceeds expectations.

  • Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.

  • Demonstration of strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize projects to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstration of excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registration

Certification in at least one of the three disciplines (Environmental, Occupational Health, or Safety) preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM).

Work Location
