About The Job:

The Patient Representative is responsible for performing billing, collecting, and accounts receivable transaction processing, and for handling billing inquires for the Hospital and Clinic. Referrals, posting charges, payments for insurances, refunds and adjustments. This position will also cover for hospital patient registrations, switchboard functions, and cashier duties.

The Shift:

8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday

The Pay:

Wage starts at $15.85 increases with experience.

What We Need from You:

  • Prepares, edits and processes all electronic and non-electronic claims in compliance with guidelines and regulations set forth by Medicare and various Federal and State Government/Agencies, and Third-Party Payors. Is familiar with medical procedures and diagnosis as they refer to the claims.

  • Identifies and investigates denials. Corrects claims and re-files as appropriate.

  • Assists patients with insurance reimbursement questions/problems. Identifies pending insurance balances. Updates patient demographic information as needed.

  • Communicates with other fiscal departments, ancillary departments, physicians and their office staff, and nursing personnel, as needed, to clarify billing discrepancies and/or to obtain medical information.

  • Performs a number of functions on the Direct Data Entry (DDE), as they relate to the processing of electronic claims.

  • Attends workshops to stay abreast of changes in Medicare, Medicaid and third-party payor guidelines and compliance issues.

  • Posts charges and payments from daily encounter forms; balances daily business.

    Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Post-high school education is desirable.

  • Must have experience with or course work in medical terminology or be willing to obtain within one year in the position.

  • Must have one to three years' experience in the health care setting. Computer experience and knowledge of medical billing is preferred.

  • Basic computer skills, ability to operate ten key calculators efficiently, and must be able to interact well with a variety of customers.

    Who We Are:

    Mitchell County Regional Health Center is in Osage, Iowa located in Mitchell County, which has a population of 10,600 people. MCRHC is a 25-bed critical access hospital, including a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room seeing 3,200 visits annually. The Surgical Services department performs over 1,300 procedures annually, including specialties General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain management, and Podiatry.
