Henry County Health Center Medical Assistant in Mount Pleasant, Iowa
GENERAL DEFINITION /SCOPE of RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in patient care management; these duties are delegated in relation to the degree of training in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities.
Prepares patient for examination and/or treatment
Assists the provider as directed
Takes patient history and vital signs as directed by provider
Sets up exam/treatment rooms and instruments for minor surgical procedures;
Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment used for treatments administered, including necessary sterilization and observation of the septic techniques.
In some areas, the incumbent will do the electoral cardiograms
The medical assistant assists the provider in preparation for minor surgeries, physicals, giving injections and applying splints.
Depending upon the location and staffing, the medical assistant may also be responsible for a variety of general office clerical duties that include:
Arranging provider schedule
Setting patient appointments and/or referrals
Answering and directing telephone calls
Providing general information on department policies and procedures
Composing and typing general correspondence
Ordering and maintaining both clinical and office supplies and equipmentK. The medical assistant also maintains patient files, records and other information and may maintain a variety of general clerical records and general department activities.M. Participates in additional activities is indicated by department and or clinic needsO. Must demonstrate skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patient's medical staff and the public
P. The medical assistant will participate in a variety of professional activities to keep abreast of current changes and trends in the healthcare industry.
N. The medical assistant must show a knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
L. May compile and condense technical and statistical data for use in reports in records
J. Must also have functional knowledge of the computer system to register patients and enter charges within the system

Display professionalism in all aspects of appropriate nursing and human relations skills,
Education and experience (required, not preferred) Graduation from an accredited MA program or LPN with physician office experience or high school graduate with ability to be trained
Annual requirements, licensure, and certification: BLS certified.
Machines, tools, equipment and work aids; Competence in operating typical clinic equipment as per provider’s requirements
