JOB SUMMARY : A Non-physician Provider is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or a Physician Assistant (PA) in the MercyOne Health Network who provides quality patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The ARNP works collaboratively with primary care physicians, and the PA works under the supervision of approved physicians. The duties of the Non-physician provider cannot be rigidly defined, but the following description characterizes common expectations of the position. The primary responsibilities may not be interpreted to prohibit functions not specifically identified.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding physical and mental health and health promotion. Communicates appropriately with collaborating/supervising physicians, other health care professionals, patients and families. Provides immediate evaluation and treatment for emergency medical problems, instituting necessary procedures and directing emergency personnel in care and transport of the patient. Documents clearly, consistently, in a timely manner all patient care activities and follow-up care. Codes appropriately, based on the documentation and established standards. Refers patients appropriately to specialists as needed. Is knowledgeable about and appropriately utilizes community services, agencies and resources for patients and their families. Directs other clinic staff in the provision and execution of medical care. Participates in the formal governance process of MercyOne Medical Group. Willingly participates in committees as requested by the Governance Council or MercyOne Health Network. Represents the interests of the clinic to the medical staff and other departments of the health care system.
Participates in the required activities of MercyOne Medical Group, MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, and/or appropriate regional hospitals. Participates in and assists in the development of staff educational in service meetings and promotes the application of new knowledge relevant to the clinic. Promotes and provides education on health and wellness to patients, families and the community. Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization's Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. Takes an active role I enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional /job-related growth and development and participated in medical center and/or department education programs. Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Clinic Manager, Regional Director, and Supervising Physician.
Albert Lea is a population of about 18,000. This clinic will serve a population of roughly 50,000 across southern Minnesota. The clinic is projected to open next summer, July 2020. In the initial phase, we will be offering primary care services, and extended/weekend urgent care hours. Specialists from MercyOne North Iowa will be there daily. Call will be very limited- strictly phone call which will be rotated amongst all providers.
