Mt. Ascutney Hospital Manager- Obstetrics & Family Health in Manchester, Iowa

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position participates as a member of the Leadership Team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making to assure quality services in accordance with hospital standards. The Obstetrics and Family Health Manager assumes administrative and clinical responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Obstetrics and Family Health Department, and recommends and implements changes that would improve delivery of services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in state of Iowa

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

  • 5 or more years of obstetric nursing experience required

  • NRP certification required

  • Child and Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporter Training required

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Reports to the Acute Care Director

DIRECT REPORTS:

Obstetrics Coordinator, Obstetrics RN, Nursery RN/LPN, OB Unit Secretary

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manages the activities and processes within the OB department

  • Collaborates with the Med/Surg/ ICU Manager to utilize inpatient nursing staff efficiently and effectively to meet the staffing needs of the inpatient nursing departments.

  • Collaborates and communicates staffing and other needs to the Acute Care Director

  • Provides and participates in in-service programs, committees, and staff meetings as appropriate

  • Assigns responsibilities to department members

  • Assists in marketing and publicizing activities

  • Assists in implementation of quality management activities and identifies infection control problems

  • Assists in obtaining statistical data

  • Completes performance appraisals

  • Assists with budget preparation activities and capital expenditure plans

  • Serves as a special resource person to other units

  • Coordinates programs/education for the public

  • Assists to educate staff on regulatory compliance issues

  • Leads/facilitates departmental meetings

  • Performs quality management functions

  • Manages/coordinates Childbirth Education Classes

  • Functions as RN:

  • Provides nursing care

  • Assists providers in performing procedures

  • Reports transfers and changes in admission status

  • Works with Discharge Planning to communicate patient needs to ancillary services

  • Assures the changing/rotation of supplies in inventory

  • Functions as a super user for clinical documentation development and implementation of electronic health record(EHR)

  • Participates in employee coaching, development and disciplinary activities

  • Delegates duties as needed for specific functions required by State Department of Inspection & Appeals, etc.

  • Promotes team atmosphere

  • Manages FTE allotments/department schedule for appropriate staffing

  • Develops efficiencies in workflow

  • Reviews all OB staff member’s payroll through Kronos on a bi-weekly basis

  • Fosters effective communication skills with providers, surgeons, and RMC staf
