Corteva Agriscience Research Scientist, Molecular and Bioinformatic Analysis, Seed Regulatory Sciences in Johnston, Iowa


Seed Regulatory Sciences is seeking a Research Scientist to provide technical and scientific leadership in the area of molecular and bioinformatic analysis to support global biosafety studies for biotech crop products. The individual will take accountability for developing and conducting scientific studies for a successful and timely completion of regulatory molecular product characterization. Additionally, the individual will have responsibility for detailed DNA and protein sequence analysis of lead product candidates by utilizing knowledge of appropriate bioinformatic tools and resources. The individual will be expected to use appropriate molecular approaches and bioinformatic tools, carry out the necessary analysis, and interpret the results in relationship to the regulatory requirements. In addition, the individual will have Study Director responsibility for regulatory biosafety studies in support of multiple products in a GLP environment.


  • Develops and conducts molecular characterization studies for biotech crop products.

  • Coordinates with key technology providers in the lab and field to fully leverage and integrate new technologies into molecular studies.

  • Interfaces with other research functions to ensure that appropriate approaches are available to characterize molecular aspects of candidate genes in the target crop.

  • Provides bioinformatics support for all regulatory studies including DNA, RNA, protein and biochemical analysis studies to support product characterization and subsequent safety and nutritional evaluation of those products.

  • Develops and validates new bioinformatic methods to proactively meet regulatory analytical needs.

  • Develops strategies for experimental design, data collection and data analysis under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) where necessary.

  • Reviews data, determines validity of conclusions concerning product safety and writes detailed scientific study reports based on regulatory requirements.


Ph.D. in plant sciences, preferably specializing in plant molecular biology or bioinformatics. At least 3 to 5 years of work experience in the agricultural biotechnology industry or related scientific field. Broad scientific knowledge of genetics, epigenetics, and molecular biology. Extensive experience with bioinformatics tools including performing tasks on multiple platforms and transforming data for use in multiple application. Some proficiency in programming languages is desired. Demonstrated strength in experimental design, sequence analysis, and analysis of complex data sets that integrate multiple data types. Ability to interact and execute in a cross-functional research environment. Ability to develop, communicate and implement a research strategy.
