Our laboratory utilizes a genetically modified mouse model of heart failure and mitochondrial dysfunction to understand mechanisms of nutrient/energy sensor signaling in the protection of mitochondria. Findings will be used to design novel therapeutic agents to suppress disease in genetic cardiomyopathy and other heart failure models. This includes the use of genetically modified cardiomyocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells. Applicants should have a strong background in the use of genetic mouse models, as well as molecular and cellular biology.
