Carver College of Medicine invite applications for a 100% PET Imaging Scientist in the Department of Radiology, to provide teaching, research and clinical service support to the PET Imaging Center in the Nuclear Medicine division. The successful candidate may be appointed on either the clinical or tenure track, open rank.The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. from a Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or other related academic program that included suitable training and experience in kinetic modeling and image analysis.The successful candidate will join the faculty of the Department of Radiology, Division of Nuclear Medicine. The successful candidate will be an individual who can contribute to the tripartite mission of the department (education, research, and service) with a distribution of effort commensurate with department and institutional needs and the candidate's background.Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Didactic lectures for technologists through the University of Iowa Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.Didactic lectures to nuclear medicine and radiology residents and fellows.Assisting in both formal and informal training of graduate students working in the PET Imaging Center.Facilitating College of Medicine small group learning experiences.Additional teaching opportunities will exist interfacing with other departments across the University of Iowa.Research responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Initiating and maintaining an independent research laboratory specializing in quantitative and PET imaging, ideally with a focus in brain imaging. The position includes expectation of securing independent funding (federal, industry, or internal) to support this research work.Providing research support to faculty both within and outside of the Department of Radiology in the form of quantitative and pharmacokinetic analysis for oncologic, neurologic, and cardiac PET imaging.Providing scholarly support for researchers using PET imaging (e.g., authoring sections of grant applications and manuscripts).In concert with other nuclear medicine faculty, acting as an interface/advisor/protocol developer with researchers outside of the Department of Radiology desiring to use PET imaging in research applications.Developing opportunities for research support with investigators utilizing microPET and microSPECT in the Imaging Small Animal Imaging Center.Service and Clinical Support Responsibilities include, but are toRegulatory support (e.g., assisting with applications to Institutional Review Board, Medical Radiation Protection Committee) for researchers both within and outside the Department of Radiology utilizing PET imaging.Helping Manage the quality control of PET/CT and PET/MRI instrumentation for both clinical operation and the PET Imaging Center's clinical trial portfolio.Supporting physicians in the routine clinical quantitative analysis of clinical studies using commercial quantitative software, including, but not limited to quantitation of neurological studies (e.g., epilepsy and dementia) and quantitative cardiac blood flow.Professional interaction with the institution's radiation safety officer.Working with the technologist staff, providing technical support, as needed, for clinical procedures.Providing input on the purchase of new instrumentation.Working with Nuclear Medicine faculty and other potential researchers in the decision-making process for expanding the PET radiopharmaceutical portfolio.Service on departmental and institutional committees as assigned or volunteered.The University of Iowa is an equal opportunity/affirmativ
