Patient Registration Clerk

FTE: 1.0 (Full Time - 40 hours per week)

SHIFT: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm

  • Oversees and ensures that the day-to-day monitoring and modifications of staff, assignments and schedules to meet daily workload.

  • Coordinates department monthly work schedule.

  • Has working knowledge of all department duties and responsibilities. Helps cover shifts in all departments during day, evening, night and weekend hours.

  • Flexible schedule and ability to respond to staff during off-hours.

  • Maintains/updates statistical reports for Patient Access Department.

  • Provides customer service training for Patient Access Department staff. 90 %

  • Ensures accurate and courteous services to all customers.

  • Provides organization, leadership, communication, planning and problem solving skills for Patient Access Staff.

  • Assists with patient registration staff screening, hiring and orientation.

  • Orientation will include training for the Epic Patient Access group, which is not limited to Registration or Scheduling.

  • Helps to evaluate new employees by completing employee competency checklists.

  • Promotes intra and interdepartmental communication.

  • Assists with monitoring of productivity guidelines for registration staff.

  • Ability to maintain and create department policies and procedure manuals.

  • Develops continuing education programs to meet staff development needs by creating tools and tip sheets to assist with the registration and scheduling processes.

  • Assists with monthly department meeting agendas and meeting minutes.

  • Distributes pertinent information to all staff involved.

  • Maintains training material to ensure all staff are trained with up-to-date materials.

  • Assists in monitoring quality assurance activities for Patient Access Department.

  • Ensures accurate registration and verification of patient information and updates patient information as appropriate including precertification requirements.

  • Assists in correcting patient accounts by working closely with the Central Billing Office to obtain necessary requirements for billing.

  • Ensures that department supplies are ordered and maintained in an organized manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Graduate

Experience:

  • Data entry and typing.

  • Must have experience in a healthcare office environment; patient registration or financial counseling experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change.

  • Ability to spell correctly, write or print legibly, speak clearly, use correct grammar.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to interact appropriately and perform clerical services for infant, child, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • Must use own initiative to complete duties Proficient in computer app
