Nursing Supervisor - Pain Center

FTE: 1.0 (Full-time, 40 hours per week)

Shift: M-F, days

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for activity and operations within specified area and will have organizational responsibility for area’s staff and budget.

  • Responsible for organizing staffing and administering all personnel in one or more functional organizational units.

  • Responsible for providing functional advice and control to all units of the organization within their discipline.

  • Activities of subordinates are highly technical and varied; supervision may require complex scheduling and functional guidance in a very complex environment.

  • Responsible for implementation, ongoing management and strategic growth in areas of responsibility including outreach, marketing and community education.

  • Participates on hospital committees as appropriate.

  • Provides direct care for patients in the Pain Management Center when needed. This includes rooming patients, assisting with proceedures, and assisting patients in recovery after proceedures.

Planning:

  • Develop annual goals and objectives.

  • Develop strategic plan.

Organizing:

  • Develop and revise structure to meet goals.

Budget/Controlling:

  • Plan and manage the effective and efficient use of human resources.

  • Prepare and operate under a budget.

Directing/Evaluating:

  • Develop system to measure areas effectiveness.

  • Ensure areas are in compliance with rules and regulations.

  • Manage day to day operations.

  • Evaluate employee performance.

Staffing/Scheduling:

  • Identify and develop staffing plans.

  • Leads and has oversight responsibilities in patient care

  • Ensure areas functions are adequately staffed.

Training:

  • Develop key personnel in their area.

  • Responsible for overseeing completion of staff competencies and required education.

  • Facilitates development of clinical judgment in health-care team members through role modeling, coaching, and/or mentoring.

Coordinating:

  • Ensure proper communications and plans are coordinated with other areas (i.e., Primary Care Providers).

  • Collaborates with the Medical Directors for all units.

  • Establishes collaborative relationships within and across disciplines that promote patient safety, culturally competent care and clinical excellence.

Decision Making:

  • Ability to make frequent decisions and take actions of a difficult nature involving several related functions.

  • Objectives involve resolution of highly complex problems using factual information and management principles.

  • Requires ability to make frequent technical decisions and take action of a difficult and complex nature to achieve assigned objectives.

  • Responsible for developing problem solutions using established principles.

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration, Nursing or other health-related field.

Licensure:

  • Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa or applicable compact state.

  • Must be licensed in state of residence.

  • If not a Registered Nurse, no licensure required.

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration, Nursing or other health-related field

Experience:

  • Two (2) years healthcare experience; Supervisory experience in related area preferred

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skills required for area of assignment.

  • Exercises good judgment and maintain effective interpersonal skills.

  • Able to solve problems, think creatively, communicate effectively and manage changing circumstances.

  • Ability to delegate effectively.
