CommonSpirit Health Supervisor- Revenue Cycle in DES MOINES, Iowa

The Supervisor will assist the manager of Centralized Billing / Coding & Compliance Auditor Teams in the planning, organization and directing of the daily operations. This person serves as a front-line resource to staff for workflow and application-related questions. Conducts quality control audits and reports findings back to manager. Assists with coordination of new and recurring staff training as needed. Responsible for day-to-day departmental operations in the absence of the manager.

  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to work independently by making appropriate decisions according to the organizational and departmental guidelines that fall within the scope of the position.

  • Monitors departmental specific compliance with MCI Policies implementing plans as needed.

  • Acknowledges patient rights with regard to confidentiality by maintaining patient confidentiality and following HIPAA guidelines and regulations at all times.

  • Promotes personal growth/development and understanding among staff members in all departments.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of management /supervisory responsibilities as identified in the corporate compliance plan.

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and effectively utilize a highly complex billing system(s).

  • Promotes team concept among all staff in department. Ensures problems, possible solutions and final solutions are understood and accepted by assigned staff members.

  • Presents problems in a professional manner and helps coordinate solutionsinter-departmentally. Creatively seeks solutions to existing problems as well as potential problems. Creatively implements solutions to problems.

  • Trains and monitors staff to ensure that protocols in specific areas comply with federal/state regulatory agencies as applicable.

  • Creatively seeks new ideas to stay within budget guidelines while constantly improving the quality of health care delivered.

  • Ensures charging/ reimbursement changes are integrated into every level of clinic operations by coordinating with the clinic teams.

  • Schedules and supervises department personnel.

  • Participates with department manager in pre-employment interviews and makes recommendations regarding hiring.

  • Assists with directing, motivating, and evaluating the activities of department personnel. May also be responsible for directly evaluating and disciplining staff members.

  • Works with management to ensure all compliance processes and protocols are understood and adhered to by all departmental staff.

  • Reviews and makes recommendations to manager on possible revisions to the MCI policies

  • Assists the department manager in monitoring utilization of supplies (including coding resources) and makes appropriate adjustments to meet the budget.

  • Responsible for day-to-day departmental operations in the absence of the department manager that may cover more than supervised area.


  • High School Diploma or equivalency.

  • Two years of experience in clinic/physician office.

  • Two years of experience in auditing medical documentation.

  • A minimum of two years current experience with ICD 10, CPT coding, and health insurance provider rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of: Medical office practices and proce­dures, mathematics, office equipment, medical terminology, clinic policies and procedures, data entry and basic computer experience.

  • Professional Coding Certification required.
