CommonSpirit Health RN NICU in DES MOINES, Iowa


MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed by the alignment of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health,is excited to offer nursing opportunities in our new maternity center located in the western suburbs!

The maternity center will include five private, spacious labor and delivery suites with advanced safety features – including fetal monitoring and infant security systems; 15 postpartum recovery suites; and two state-of-the-art obstetrical surgical suites dedicated for cesarean-section procedures. The design includes comfortable furnishings for overnight guests, hospitality area, large flat-screen TVs, Bluetooth capability, walk-in showers, whirlpool tubs and other amenities.

This Neonatal Intensive Care Unit brings opportunities for nurses interested in providing advanced care and monitoring to premature babies (preemies) or ill infants. This Level II nursery, the first of its kind in the western suburbs, is a five (5) bassinet unit and offers advanced clinical services, surgical services, leading-edge monitoring technology, and advanced safety features – including fetal monitoring and infant

security systems.

In addition to caring for our patients, we also care for our employees. All full time, newly hired Registered Nurses are eligible for the following incentives in addition to standard benefits:

Neonatal RN Expectations:

  • Deliver specialized medical care to infants born at 32 weeks gestation and older, prematurity, intrauterine growth restriction, and congenital malformations

  • Administer and monitor conventional or high-frequency assisted ventilation

  • Provide post-surgical care to infants in the neonatal nursery

  • Oversee nitric oxide therapy to newborns with lung problems when necessary


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)

  • Active Registered Nurse Licensure by the Iowa Board of Nursing

(Includes nursing licenses with eNLC multi-state privilege)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training.

(Must obtain within three (3) months of start date if incomplete.)
