Responsibilities

  • Performs Diagnostic Imaging procedures for patients of all ages on scheduled shifts including operating imaging equipment.

  • Provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling in recognition and solution of physical, emotional, and environmental health problems.

  • Maintains open and positive communication with staff, physicians, and other departments.

  • Instructs, supervises, and evaluates student technologists.

  • Presents a positive image to community and professional contacts.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing all exams according to protocol. Maintains the physical environment of the department in a clean, well-stocked, orderly manner.

  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner, reporting any malfunctions to manager/Bio-med.

  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the Diagnostic Imaging Department with other areas of the department and hospital to insure and maintain patient care.

  • Demonstrates proper phone etiquette and utilization of computers, including completion of exam data entry.

  • Complies with OSHA/JCAHO and other regulatory agency recommendations and guidelines.

  • Attends hospital and department meetings and in-services.

  • Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Promotes professionalism within the department, hospital and community. Acts as a role model

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient/personnel information.

  • Takes call for neuro surgery cases on a regular basis.

  • Willing to primarily work in surgery. Ex: two out of every three weeks.

  • Proficient at running C-Arm for complicated orthopedic and neuro surgery cases.

  • Proficient at running the O-Arm and Stealth for Crani and Spine surgeries.

  • Able to travel for specialized training to run the Stealth navigation system. Will know or learn how to perform a variety of different cases as needed for the neuro surgeons.

  • Proficient with workflow in the OR. Able to carry the main surgery phone to organize and prioritize staff responses to surgery cases.

  • Level III technologist with a good working rapport with OR staff and surgeons.

  • Performs monthly calibrations on the O-Arm.

  • Willing and able to train other radiologic technologist staff, as needed to operate C-Arm and O-Arm for complicated orthopedic cases.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited two year Radiologic Technology program.

  • Registered Radiologic Technologist witha minimum of one year, FT experience in

  • regular surgery rotations and proficiency in routine and trauma surgery imaging.

  • Maintains current Iowa Permit to Practice

  • Maintains active registry status in ARRT

  • Participates in professional society (i.e., ISRT or SCD)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

  • No disciplinary action in file (written notice or higher)

  • Clinical preceptor/mentor

  1. Responsible for training of new staff and students.

  2. Responsible for training staff on new techniques and/or equipment

  3. Responsible for signing off on employee competencies

  • Able to take call independently within 6 months of completing formal and OTJ training and associated competencies.

  • Participates in department QA if necessary
