The Job

DMOS is seeking a Full-Time or Part-Time Physician Assistants to work in our clinic. Our full time positions generally work in clinic a couple days and surgery a couple days and may specialize in a specific extremities. A full time position will also be required to be on call approximately 4-6 weekends a year and one day a month. You will be responsible for patient consultation, evaluation and care, writing progress notes, and dictating office notes. Successful candidate should be NCCPA-certified/eligible. Previous orthopaedic experience preferred but will train the right candidate. Have a positive can-do attitude and a love for your job? If so, you’ll be our ideal candidate.

Part time hours:Monday- Surgery at Lutheran 6:30-4:30 (short breaks only)Tuesday- See your own patients in Clinic from 8:00-5:00 (this day is optional)Wednesday (every other)- Surgery at Lutheran 6:30-4:30 (short breaks only)Friday (every other)- Surgery at Methodist West 6:30-3:00 (this day is optional)

Full Time hours:Monday- Surgery at Lutheran 6:30-4:30 (short breaks only)Tuesday- See your own patients in Clinic from 8:00-5:00 Wednesday (every other)- Surgery at Lutheran 6:30-4:30/Outpatient Surgery Center the opposite Wednesday (short breaks only)Thursday- Clinic helping the physician 8:00-5:00Friday (every other)- Surgery at Methodist West 6:30-3:00/paperwork, catch up day the opposite Friday. (short breaks only)Also on call 5-6 weekends a yearOn call every other Tuesday. Patients can, but rarely do, call the P.A. Monday through Friday until 10:00 pm through answering service.

You Will:

  • Provide comprehensive healthcare services to patients of all ages.

  • Promote and maintain health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.

  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist as a first or second assistant in OR cases.

  • Managing transfers of patients from OR to ICU.

  • Develop post-op care plans and preparing patients and families for patient discharge.

  • Perform pre-op care including diagnosing patient condition and prescribing care including surgery.

  • Preparing patients for surgery and assisting as a first or second assistant in OR cases. Review old patient records that may be pertinent to patients’ current condition.

  • Perform and document physical examinations including screening examinations.

  • Document normal and abnormal findings on histories, physical examinations and commonly performed diagnostic studies.

  • Document prognosis, along with short and long-term goals.

  • Exercise prescriptive authority to prescribe according to federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

  • Meet competency based standards of practice according to certification and facility policy and procedures, code of conducts and board requirements. The PA will discuss cases with the supervising physician and other health care professionals as needed to prepare patient care plans.

  • Review assessment and plan of care and collaborate with physician in accordance with the federal, state, local laws and regulations.

  • Patient referrals to the physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment will be made appropriately.

  • Inpatients, prescriptions for inpatients and discharge summaries.

Requirements/Regulatory Requirements

  • Completion of and certification in an accredited Physician Assistant program for PA in the State of Iowa Licensed as a Physician’s Assistant

  • Current NCCPA certification for Physician Assistant

  • Current BLS certification

  • You must be able to close wounds including subcutaneous layer and running stitch.

  • You must be strong in order to help out in surgery.

  • EHR experience, in Epic preferred.
