Subspecialty Medicine Physician - Cardiologist: This position falls under the Specialty Medicine Service Line at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines and performs duties as a cardiologist in the inpatient and outpatient settings, at the VA Medical center is Des Moines, or one of the affiliated CBOC's (Community Based Outpatient Clinics).
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following: · Provide consultative services and follow up for inpatient and outpatient patients. Expertise in non-invasive cardiology; including echocardiography, TEE and nuclear skills and stress testing On Call duty will be assigned as needed, primarily for the coverage of inpatients. Participation in special projects pertinent to assigned sub-specialty, such as palliate care program, multidisciplinary cancer care program, and chronic disease management program. Inpatient discharge planning to include collaboration with the hospitalists and proper hand off at the end of shifts, as necessary. Inpatient progress notes and timely documentation necessary Quality of care should meet professional standards at all times. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Board Certified Cardiologist Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Placement in this position is subject to meeting the physical requirements of the position. This includes: Walking (up to 3 hours); standing (up to 3 hours); kneeling (up to one hour); repeated bending (up to 3 hours); Light lifting (under 15 pounds.) light carrying
(under 15 pounds); reaching above shoulder; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Hearing (aid permitted).
