Provides a diverse skill set to compliment professional staff in The Help Center, Patient Care Units, Programs and the Behavioral Health Clinic. Provides direct care for patients under the supervision of a RN or Physician. Provides community resource information. Depending on primary work assignment may be required to be competent in registration, scheduling, reception, document management, and charge posting. Assumes special projects based on department needs, expertise and interest.
Responsible forproviding direct patient care within the Behavioral Health Services inaccordance with the patients’ needs and individualized care plans.
Maintains andemploys a therapeutic perspective/approach when dealing with patients and unitguests. Relates to patients in anon-judgmental, accepting, helpful, respectful manner.
Develops, andfacilitates psycho-education and diversionary activities for patients inaccordance with daily schedules and the patient’s treatment plan.
Responsible forthorough documentation of observations and care provided.
Participates inPatient Care Conferences whenever possible.
Conveys pertinentinformation to RN and other members of the healthcare team.
Promotescommunication with patients, family and hospital guests.
Responsible forworking knowledge of hospital’s emergency procedures; assists in providing aclean and safe environment.
Demonstratesworking knowledge of psychiatric disorders in defined area of service.
Receive anddirects incoming calls.
Ensures thatclinicians are notified promptly of urgent/emergent situations.
Performs collectionof new patient demographic information, registration, consents, insuranceverification, charge posting and scheduling in the Behavioral Health Clinic.
Promotesmaintenance of therapeutic milieu by encouraging patients’ participation inassigned activities.
Engages intherapeutic conversation with patient and interacts with them in accordancewith appropriate therapeutic boundaries.
Accompaniespatients off unit as ordered for tests, visitation, walks, etc, as staffing andmilieu allows.
Participatesactively in necessary crisis intervention within the Psychiatric ServicesDepartment and throughout the hospital as needed and when availability permits.
Sharesresponsibility of routine patient rounds with other nursing staff on duty ifassigned to inpatient team.
Demonstratesawareness of legal issues in relation to job and strive to assist in themanagement of situations in a reduced risk manner.
Providesmiscellaneous office duties- greeting patients, filing, and or retrievingmedical records, sorting and distributing mail, updating demographics andinsurance information to promote continuity of services as appropriate to workassignment.
Conducts routineadmission belonging searches and all other searches necessary throughoutadmission, per unit policy and procedure.
MINUMIM KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
BS in health related area or 1 year of experienceworking in a health care setting preferred
Knowledge of medical office practices and procedures,office equipment, medical terminology, data entry and micro-office software preferredin clinic setting
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified orobtained within three (3) months of hire.
Proof ofcompletion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served withinthree (3) months of hire.
