Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences ( invites applications for the Coordinator of Clinical Education Master of Science in Athletic Training degree program. We are seeking a dynamic faculty member to assist in the continued development of clinical education for the program and we invite applications for the full-time, twelve-month, faculty position (tenure or non-tenure track decided by successful candidate) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with the title of Coordinator of Clinical Education of the Master’s in Athletic Training Program. The successful candidate will report to the Athletic Training Program Director and the Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs and be responsible for all aspects of clinical education for the Master of Athletic Training program. Main responsibilities of the position will include overseeing student clinical progression, assignment of students to clinical sites, developing and maintaining clinical educational sites and preceptors, assessment of students, preceptors, and clinical sites, maintaining compliance with CAATE accreditation standards, assisting in completing necessary accreditation reports, teaching, and supporting activities and programs geared toward the recruitment and selection of students for the program.   • Teach courses within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences that include faculty member’s contemporary expertise.

  • Develop, document, and assess clinical sites and preceptors using eValue software in accordance with CAATE standards. This includes but is not limited to, ratios, supervision, and safety.

  • Develop, document, and assess student centered learning outcomes using database (eValue) software in accordance with CAATE standards.

  • Educate and communicate with preceptors to ensure quality clinical education occurs and is in-line with didactic education objectives and outcomes.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Experiential Learning to ensure place students in clinical rotation assignments and allow for students to complete all required clinical education experiences.

  • Collaborate with athletic training faculty to revise, implement, and use program assessment plan to improve quality of all aspects of the program.

    Other generic essential job functions are:

  • Maintain current knowledge of athletic training literature and CAATE requirements related to clinical education.

  • Prepare and present classroom materials, activities and examinations in assigned courses

  • Monitor and Maintain records of student progress in assigned courses

  • Develop and maintain a fundable scholarship program

  • Publish results of scholarship in appropriate professional journals

  • Act as an advisor to a portion of the population of students

  • Develop and maintain associations with professional associations and organizations

  • Participate in governance of department, college, and university

  • Perform academic and professional service to advance the college, university, and the community

  • Additional duties as assigned


    A terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DAT or equivalent) in athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology, or related field is preferred, ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Well defined contemporary expertise in athletic training related to the evaluation of injuries

  • Current certification with the Board of Certification and eligible for Iowa AT licensure.

  • Evidence of previous clinical practice in athletic training.

  • Evidence of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program

  • Demonstrated potential for research and other scholarly and creative activities

  • Experience as an Athletic Training Preceptor and/or Coordinator of Clinical Education

  • Experience in curriculum design, assessment, and outcomes measurements

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence with the skills and experience to work with diverse individuals
