REGIONAL HEALTH SERVICES OF HOWARD COUNTY Lab Assistant - Phlebotomist- Primary duties will be COVID related (PRN/Standby position) in CRESCO, Iowa

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of duties in the laboratory, including, but not limited to, drawing blood, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, data entry and management, record keeping, preparing specimens and requisitions for reference lab tests, reporting of results, maintaining inventory and restocking, and maintaining equipment, and general cleaning. Performs routine technical work in laboratory under the direction of the clinical laboratory technologist. Could also be responsible for phlebotomy services, including patient blood samples through venipuncture and other technologies as ordered by a physician. Receives the physician requests and collects blood specimens from patients by performing venipunctures, heelsticks or fingersticks. Properly identifies patient and correctly labels specimens.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DETAILED DUTIES:Receives and obtains specimens from all patient types for laboratory analysis using good safety technique and infection control parameters; labeling all tubes and specimens properly with all required information. Sets up the laboratory equipment and material for the procedures required. Uses the reagents, solutions, and stains in the appropriate and necessary manner.Prepares specimens and requisitions for reference lab testing. This includes verifying return of test results and proper dispatching. Labels tubes and specimens properly with all required information each time.Performs chain of custody drug and alcohol testing.Processes specimens for testing.Responsible for recognizing and reporting equipment malfunction.Performs non-regulated procedures, i.e. waived testing.Cleans glassware, equipment, and lab work areas.Restocks supplies as needed.Unpack the shipment of supplies and place in proper storage.Assists in data management.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent required.Prefer previous office and phlebotomy experience.Must be proficient in drawing all ages of patients within 60 days of beginning this position.BLS (CPR) certified or obtained within 3 months of employment.For more information, or to apply now, you must go to the website below.
