Job Description
This is a non-merit posting for Iowa Department of Corrections.
This position will perform Physician responsibilities at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center (IMCC). IMCC is a multi-faceted correctional institution that serves as the reception center for the Iowa Department of Corrections as well as housing a forensic psychiatric hospital, STA/LTA, special needs unit, and a hospice unit to name a few.
This position examines and evaluates individuals to diagnose medical conditions. Once the evaluation or diagnosis has been reached they are instrumental in the development of an interdisciplinary treatment plan, where their work reflects team leadership and where the team will determine where in the continuum of care the patient will be placed and what treatment or treatment programs needs to be offered.
Provides patient care through a variety of means, be it medical skilled & assisted living units, outpatient service, tele-med service, consultation service or referral service. These services focus on pharmacotherapy but may also be provided by evidence based practices and they can be in group or individual format which respond to greater level of treatment an individual may require. Follow DOC Formulary as part of patient management.
Available for consultation with other physicians on an as needed basis for pertinent medical issues. Teaches, and is available to medical school students, interns and graduates. Provides instruction and follow-up on a variety of psychiatric or medical issues or concerns to all members of an interdisciplinary team. Follow DOC medical guidelines for treatment.
Completes necessary medical records/reports to document treatment provided to patients. Completes necessary legal reports and is prepared, when necessary, to go to court on behalf of the institution. Attends professional staff and in-service training as required to support appropriate licensure in their field. Gathers data and supports research and quality improvement activity.
Other duties as assigned within the scope of their expertise. Responsible for on-call rotation schedule.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
