GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides patient care, through all phases of the Endoscopy experience; admission through discharge according to established guidelines. Provides patient care activities to patients of diverse ages. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Prepares and evaluates outpatients prior to the procedure in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow. May include doing pre-procedure phone calls to patients and/or physician offices to obtain information. - Demonstrates the ability to organize work and enhance the safety and quality of patient care, service and treatment. - Proficient in IV skills. - Review charts to ensure completeness in documentation. - Prepares for cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of the patient and physician. - Provides a safe environment for customers: patient, family, physicians and staff. - Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis / plan of care. - Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, families, and other health care team members. - Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function. - Initiates and directs procedure rooms, clean up and turnover. - EKG interpretation. - Ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of the Endoscopy experience. - Utilize computer software for electronic medical record documentation (EMR). - Actively assists physicians in a large variety of endoscopy procedures. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: - Participates in orientation, training and mentoring of new personnel. - Attends Staff meetings, huddles, and in-services applicable to role/responsibilities. - Assists in development and/or revision of Endoscopy resource materials, policies and standards of practice. - Supports and participates in department improvement projects. - Acts as a Charge Nurse in the absence of the Team Coordinator if assigned.
