Quality Specialist/Sanitarian – Cedar Rapids, IA
This is an exempt level position.
Manage daily activities of the Food Safety Management System and Sanitation programs for the Cedar Rapids complex (Wet Mill, Dry Grind, and CoGen)
Coordinate and verify that activities conducted in the facilities follow/support initiatives of the Food Safety Management System and Sanitation programs
Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the plant Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (FSMS,QMS)
Serve as an active member of the Food Safety Team, up to and including, PCQI and Team leader where appropriate and implement recommendations of the (HACCP) Team
Assist departments with leadership and training with the goal to continuously improve the quality and safety of all products manufactured
Conduct plant quality and food safety audits (including GMP audits, internal audits, and glass/brittle plastics/ceramics audits)
Participate and lead customer and third party audits, including GFSI, Regulatory, Kosher and Halal visits
Provide instruction to plant employees concerning food safety and quality assurance
Take an active role in plant efforts to improve operations
Support food safety prerequisite (PRP’s) and Operational Prerequisite Programs (oPRP’s) including a guiding role with plant pest control and housekeeping
Develop and maintain plant sanitation, hygiene and cGMP systems in compliance with plant and corporate quality policies
Coordinate pest control, MSS, and water quality monitoring programs
Work closely with Federal and State agencies, certification bodies, vendors and corporate contacts
Liaise with the quality control team to ensure testing meets the needs of the plant and customers
Solid understanding of systems and processes to assure quality and safety of products and services
Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities.
Accomplish results by working effectively with others
Strong digital literacy. 5+ years work in plant manufacturing setting (preferably in food industry) with major involvement with a QMS system
BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, Engineering or related field preferred
Willing and able to spend time in plant (i.e., walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces) to understand and audit the process
Capable of working in extreme temperatures
