Job SummaryCoordinates and participates in providing perioperative nursing care to clients of all age groups. Assists with orientation and supervision of personnel. Consults with and keeps Director informed of department activity. Serves as a resource person to staff. Functions as a member of the operating room team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrates ability to multi-task during procedures.

Assists in transporting patients.

Assist team in opening operating room each day, gathering supplies/equipment needed per physician preference card, and opening of sterile supplies and equipment prior to patient entering Operating Room.

Assists in prepping and draping of patients and operative area.

Prepares and participates in preoperative counts of instruments, sponges and sharps, maintaining correct count.

Assists in positioning patients and equipment.

Following procedure, places all instruments into case cart using caution as to keep the used/contaminated instruments separate from the unused instruments.

Assist team in cleaning operating room.

Restocks and replaces linens and supplies in operating rooms and storage areas.

Addresses the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment.

Communicates with entire surgical team about pertinent patient information.

Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records.

Participates in accurate disposition of specimens.

Participates in Performance Improvement and educational activities.

Participates in cleaning, packaging and sterilization of instruments and equipment.

Participates in providing postoperative nursing care.

Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills in the working environment.

Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.

Serves as a patient advocate.

Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, tenant, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree

Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.

Position Requirements, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations.

Graduate of an accredited school for professional nursing.

Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of Iowa.

ACLS and PALS certification within twelve months of employment.
