SUMMARY Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care to patients in medical facility by performing the following duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Takes and records vital signs, height and weight.

Records food and fluid intake and output as directed.

Observes and reports changes in patient status to charge RN.

Administers specified medications and treatments according to policy.

Collects samples such as urine and sputum from patients for testing.

Serves and collects food trays and feeds patients requiring help.

Bathes, dresses and assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

Transports patients or assists patients to walk.

Answers bells, changes bed linen, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers telephone.

Encourages attendance to all unit activities.

Conducts groups with patients on a variety of topics such as anxiety, grief, stress and coping.

Safely uses restraints according to Hospital policy.

Completes all other duties as assigned.

Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Certification from college or technical school.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing for Licensed Practical Nurses.

Currently licensed in the State of Iowa as a Practical Nurse.

BCLS certified upon hire.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
