leader for specified rehab area. Assumes responsibility, authority and

accountability for all patient care activities, unit operations, staff function

and staff development. Provides on-going services to infant, child, adolescent,

adult and geriatric patients and their families based on assignment equal to

10% productivity within the scope of practice for appropriate discipline.


  • Worksindependently with direction from the Rehab Manager and Administrative Directorusing the Standards of Practice (APTA, ASHA and AOTA), MHMC policies,department policies and professional judgement; utilizes delegation skillseffectively.

  • Acts as liaisonbetween the clinic and the Rehab Director; actively participates on committees,in meetings, and in work groups as requested.

  • Assumesresponsibility for knowledge of, and adherence to, approved practice standards;assists in identification and accomplishment of clinic goals and programs;responsible for development and maintenance of unit-specific policies andprocedures.

  • Providesguidelines for unit staffing needs that reflect patient care priorities; accountablefor unit work schedule; makes adjustments in assignments and staffing accordingto staffing guidelines to maintain safe, effective care in a cost-efficientmanner.

  • Facilitatesefficient operation of the unit within approved budget; directs health careworkers (e.g., PT, OT, ST, rehab aide, etc) in the delivery of safe, effectivepatient care.

  • Serves as rolemodel, demonstrating competence in clinical skills and judgment; serves asresource to clinical staff in issues relating to clinical practice, policiesand procedures.

  • Monitors contentand processes of patient care including order processing, scheduling, provisionof appropriate treatment, and documentation, and performs necessary follow-upin a consistent manner.

  • Utilizeseffective communication skills with patient/family, physicians and health careteam members.

  • Works withmanagement team to develop and monitor productivity and performance criteriafor designated staff, including development and verification of general andunit-specific clinical competencies. Assists in recruitment and retentionactivities on the unit and for the department; conducts training andperformance management for assigned staff, including the performance appraisalprocess.

  • Demonstratesknowledge of documentation requirements needed for employees’ and patients’records and maintains accurate files; maintains confidentiality regarding allpatient/personnel information.



  • Certificate,Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology, Occupational or Physical Therapy (depending on which areathey are supervising)

  • Licensed oreligible for licensure in Iowa

  • Minimum two (2)years clinical work experience required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified orobtained within three (3) months of hire.Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American RedCross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association BasicLife Support for Healthcare Providers.

  • Proof ofcompletion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population servedwithin three (3) months of hire.
