Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking applicants for a Teaching Lab Associate. This position will assist the teaching lab coordinators for Biology 211L and 212L with the preparation, maintenance, and set-up of the biology teaching labs. This position will work with and maintain technical equipment and computer software/hardware used in teaching biological concepts. The Teaching Lab Associate will supervise and provide guidance for undergraduate lab assistants and teaching assistants. In addition, this position will assist in keeping records, lab policies, and standard operating procedures for lab set-ups and safety.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible with scheduling due to varied enrollment and class scheduling. The incumbent may need to be available at 6 a.m. to open labs one semester and late evenings until 11:00 p.m. another semester. In addition, the successful candidate will have knowledge of basic theories, principles, concepts and methodology of biology; strong oral and written communication skills; possess attention to detail; and the ability to conduct multiple, complex tasks in an ever changing environment.

Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related discipline. Experience in a teaching laboratory, either through teaching or preparatory work for a lab course or related program. Experience providing routine maintenance of lab equipment. Experience preparing plant and animal specimens for instructional purposes. Experience preparing and writing instructional protocols. Experience organizing materials and/or projects that are complicated in nature. Experience with computer software (e.g. Excel), photo editing software and Canvas (or similar) online learning technologies. Supervisory experience

Additional Information

The Teaching Laboratory Associate works 10 months a year. This position does not work during the months of June and July.
