Job Description:

Summary The Center for Food Security and Public Health at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Public Health Veterinarian to develop highly complex or specialized materials to address issues related to animal health, transboundary diseases and emergency preparedness, including Secure Food Supply Plans. Example of Duties• Researches literature and produces scientific, technical writing in areas of veterinary medicine and emergency preparedness.• Develops journal publications, fact sheets, book chapters, training modules, web based materials, or other media for scientific presentations and the general public.• Prepares materials that promote national-scale emergency response and disease control.• Liaises with other organizations regarding animal health needs.Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist• Provides guidance to students

This position will be hired at either a Public Health Veterinarian level or as as Lead Public Health Veterinarian level

Minimum qualifications for a Public Health Veterinarian

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent and 5 years of related experience

Pay Grade: PS811

Minimum qualifications for a Lead Public Health Veterinarian

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent and 8 years of related experience

Pay Grade: PS812
