Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the broad field of physical activity and health. with an anticipated start date in August, 2020. The scope of this position encompasses scientists with an academic background in physical activity epidemiology, behavioral science and public health approaches to physical activity promotion. Applications are invited from individuals with research interests in different settings and populations but priority will be given to candidates with a focus on physical activity. The person who fills this position is expected to develop an externally funded research program, publish in scholarly journals, integrate expertise into teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide relevant University and professional service. The department is particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate that their research and teaching expertise will complement and extend the expertise now available within the Department of Kinesiology. The successful applicant will have strong departmental support, excellent research infrastructure, collaborative opportunities with relevant units on- and off-campus, and a supportive, collegial work environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have completed the requirements for a doctorate by August 2020 in an appropriate area and have evidence of a focused research program as demonstrated by publication record.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of post-doctoral experience, involvement in seeking extramural funding, and college/university teaching experience are highly desirable.

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Kinesiology is one of five academic units in the College of Human Sciences and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in kinesiology. The department has approximately 1200 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, making it one of the largest academic departments at Iowa State. Department laboratories are well equipped with state of the art facilities. Ongoing research activities in the Physical Activity and Health Promotion Lab, the Physical Activity Epidemiology Lab, the Exercise Clinic Lab, the Exercise Psychology Lab, and the Well-Being and Exercise Lab provide outstanding opportunities for collaboration on physical activity and sedentary behavior research, community-based physical activity interventions, physical activity epidemiology applications (e.g. randomized controlled trials of exercise and prospective cohort studies), and clinical / public health applications to physical activity and health promotion. Department faculty and staff have a high level of collegiality and a strong commitment to students.
